In It for the Long Haul
You can’t miss the name of your Sprinter vehicle. Obviously, the name conjures up images of transportation that will get you where you need to go quickly. It’s also important, however, to obtain the preventive maintenance services and Sprinter repairs that will keep your van running optimally for a long time. Think of it as running a marathon, not just a sprint. With proper care, a Sprinter can easily last for 300,000 miles. The ASE-certified technicians at Union Line Garage in Pennington, New Jersey, can assist you with this goal. You’ll find us at 1545 Reed Rd, Pennington, NJ 08534 just a short distance from I-295. Schedule an appointment for your Sprinter by calling 609-751-5784 or using our online scheduling link.
Our shop maintains the broad vision of providing the highest quality auto services, but we have the expertise to narrow our focus and hone in on the specific needs of your particular automobile.
Maintenance and Repair Points
As with any automobile, your Sprinter will last longer if you follow a solid plan of preventive maintenance services. The manufacturer provides a recommended schedule in your owner’s manual, and we’ll be glad to help you determine what’s needed and when, as well. In general, Mercedes-Benz recommends certain maintenance points be completed at 10,000 mile intervals. One of these is an oil and filter change. The sprinter will need approximately 13 quarts of oil. The other fluids will need checking and topping off as necessary, too, and the fuel filter should be changed. Brake pads, rubber boots over joints, and shock absorbers should be checked, also. Inspect all lighting for proper function, and check all wearable items like windshield wiper blades, belts, and hoses. Finally, the maintenance counter should be reset post-service. Taking care of this maintenance checklist will head off many major problems, but some repairs can’t be avoided. While we’ll need to check your van for accurate diagnosis, some repairs are more common than others. For example, glow plugs (the heating element that aids in diesel ignition) eventually wear out and need replacing. Another issue is sometimes referred to as the “black death.” It’s an issue with a seal ring that allows gas by-products from combustion to escape, allowing a build-up to form on the injectors. Also common, you may have to replace the flexible exhaust hose and maybe even nearby wiring. The exhaust heat is intense enough to damage the pipe in some cases. Worse, the fumes that exit through the damaged area are hot enough to ruin any nearby wiring. Yet another Sprinter-specific issue is with the oil cooler. The gaskets sometimes develop leaks, allowing oil to escape and resulting in a fairly significant oil leak.
Susie Henkel2024-06-25I have been taking my cars to Union Line Garage over many many years and have always received excellent service and fair pricing. The staff go out of their way to describe their recommendations to me (without mansplaining) so I have fair warning on both the procedures and the costs before moving forward with the work. The level of customer service is above and beyond any I have received at any garage, or maybe anywhere period. We are lucky to have this resource in our area.Rett Campbell2024-06-22All, if not more, expertise of the main dealer without the price. Service and repairs performed expertly in a workmanlike manner.
